昨年、乱闘騒ぎなどの罪状に対する保護観察処分違反が問われ、収監中だったラッパーのMeek Millが本日、晴れて釈放されたことが明らかになった。
Meek Millの裁判では、彼に対し、犯した罪からしたら重すぎる2~4年刑務所に収監されるという判決が下されたことにより、それに対して、ファン、ヒップホップコミュニティーの人間、彼の地元フィラデルフィアのプロスポーツチームの選手達たちなど様々な人々が判決内容を不当だと訴える#FreeMeekMillというキャンペーンを展開。最近公開されたMV「1942 Floes」では、その#FreeMeekMillキャンペーンの映像フッテージが使用されていた。
本日釈放されたMeek Millは、自身のTwitterで、収監されていた過去5ヶ月は悪夢だったが、家族や仲間たち、ファンからの励ましの手紙や保釈を求める集会などに助けられたこと、そして、今回の釈放に大きく貢献したフィラデルフィア地方弁護士事務所の正義ある行動に感謝を表明。また有色人種への差別に対し、今後自らのプラットフォームを通じて、問題解決に取り組むと宣言。
