音楽ストリーミングプラットフォームの2大巨頭として知られるSpotifyが新型コロナウイルス禍による収入面での危機に直面しているアーティスト、イベンターなどを中心とした音楽業界を支援するために「COVID-19 MUSIC RELIEF」開始した。
「COVID-19 MUSIC RELIEF」では、音楽業界を支援する団体のMusiCares、PRS Foundation、Help Musiciansへの直接寄付をSpotifyユーザーから募り、集まった寄付金額と同額、最大で1000万ドル（約11億円超）までを寄付することで経済的な支援を行う。

また今後、アーティストページにユーザーがアーティストを直接支援するためのドネーション機能を追加。この機能で集まった寄付の使い道は選択制になっており、寄付を受け取るアーティストは、自身が支援を必要とする場合、自ら利用できるほか、その他のアーティスト支援のためにも利用することができる。
さらに公共の健康関連団体と連携した新型コロナウイルス関連ニュースや健康情報、寄付の広告などもユーザーに向けて、プラットフォームのスペースを活用し表示。加えて、傘下の関連サービスのSoundBetter、Anchorなどでも収益をアーティストやクリエイターに期間限定で還元、クラウドベースのオンライン音楽教育ツールのSoundtrapの教育機関向けサービス「Soundtrap for Education」の無料トライアル期間を延長する。
