8/24（金）に東京・WOMBにて開催される「WOMB Travel CONNECTS WORLDMARKEZ」。同イベントは、「世界各国のクラブやフェスティバルのレジデントDJやアーティスト&エージェントたちとダンスミュージックを介して有機的に繋がる」がテーマの新パーティーで今回で開催3回目を迎える。
そのゲストとして迎えられたのが、昨年、WOMB Travelインドツアーにも参加したインドを拠点とするプロデューサー/DJのDotdat。彼はそのほかにも同国で行われたResident Advisorと音楽フェス「Magnetic Fields」によるクラブナイトにも出演するなど現地シーンでは人気のアーティストで、Adam Beyerが主宰するレーベル「Drumcode」が配信するDrumcode Radio にてオリジナルトラック「Rush」がプレイされるなど、そのヒプノティックでミニマルな音楽性が耳の早いテクノファンの間で注目を集めている。
しかし、日本でのプレイが今回初となるため、まだまだ謎の多い人物であることも事実。そこでPointedでは、まだ日本人が知らない彼の魅力を深掘りするべくインタビューを試みた。

ーーWombチームとは昨年インドでのツアーで交流があると思います。その時に受けたWomb側の印象はどんな感じでしょうか？
You have known WOMB team since they were on their India tour last year. What is your impression about them?
Dotdat（以下D）：今まで出会った中でも、とても信頼できる良い人達だよ。常に笑顔で、ピュアなエネルギーとバイブスを持っている。それに彼らが音楽に対して情熱を持っているのが分かる。
They are the most genuine and nice people I’ve met in a while. Always smiling, have a pure energy and vibe. And you can tell they are passionate about their music 🙂
ーーインドのクラブシーンについては実はまだ日本人の多くはあまりよく知らない人が多いです。でもインドにはMagnetic Fields のようなビッグフェスもあります。現在、あなたのようなテクノプロデューサーが活躍する現地のシーンの状況を教えていただけますか？
Many Japanese people actually don’t really know about the club scene in India. However, there are many big music festival in India such as Magnetic Fields.Could you please tell us about the local club scene where techno producers like you are active?
D：インドのシーンは今とても盛り上がっているんだ！インドのオーディエンスはとてもオープンマインドでどんなものも受け入れてくれるんだ。ビッグフェスティバル以外にもデリーのAuro、ムンバイのDrop、バンガロールのBlue barなどのベニューを中心にローカルシーンも盛り上がっている。今のインドの音楽シーンの状況にはとても満足しているよ。
India is at an all time high at the moment! The crowd is really open and up for it all! Apart from the big festivals that happen yearly, there is a constant local scene that’s thriving with great venues like Auro in Delhi, Drop in Mumbai and Blue bar in Bangalore. I am very happy with the state of affairs in the country right now at least in terms of music.
ーーミニマルなテクノがあなたの音楽の持ち味だと思います。そういった音楽性に目覚めたきっかけは？
We feel that your style is minimal techno. How did you get into that kind of music style?
D：幼い頃からテクノミュージックを聴いてきて、Arjun Vagaleなどのインドのアーティストがインドのシーンの境界線を押し上げている姿を見て影響を受けたんだ。最初にプレイし始めた時はミニマルテクノが中心だったけど、今はもっとヘビーなテクノ寄りで、ミニマルでいてパワフルなサウンドをプレイしてるよ 😉
I’ve been flowing techno music since I am young and artists like Arjun Vagale have always pushed the boundaries in our country and this is what inspires me. When I started I was playing a lot of minimal techno but now I’m evolving toward the more heavier shades of techno. Minimalistic yet powerful 😉
ーーこれまでに日本のクラブシーンを意識したことはありますか？
Have you ever had an interest in Japanese club scene and it’s artists?
D：日本はずっと訪れてみたい国の１つだったんだ！日本料理は大好物だよ。WOMBなどのクラブのこともずっと聴いていたし、記事などでもいつも読んでいたよ。日本のアーティストのWata IgarashiやDJ Nobuが好きでよく曲をかけているんだ。日本のシーンについてはとても良い評判を聞くし、やっと日本でプレイできるのが本当に楽しみ！
Japan has always been a country I’ve wanted to visit! Japanese cuisine is my favourite. I’ve been hearing and reading about clubs like Womb for years now. I also play and follow a few artist from Japan like Wata Igarashi and DJ Nobu! I’ve heard great things about the scene in Japan and am very excited to come and finally play there.
ーーWOMB Travel CONNECTS WORLDMARKEZでは、今後、今は無名でも才能があるプロデューサー/DJを発掘していくことも念頭にイベントを開催しています。そういった若手は、どのように活動することで、自分の音楽を広く知ってもらうきっかけを作れると思いますか？
WOMB Travel CONNECTS WORLDMARKETZ hosts events with the idea of discovering up and coming artists who are unheard of, but have talent. Do you have any advice for them such as how they can be involved with the scene to promote their music to be heard by people?
D：世界を見てもWOMB Travelのようなプロジェクトを行っているクラブは少ないと思う。世の中には才能があるのに、必要なサポートやプッシュが受けられないアーティストがいるので、WOMBファミリーが率先してアーティストをサポートしているのはとても良いことだと思う。日本のアーティストはすでに素晴らしいので、アドバイスをあげるとするならば、今の状態を保つことと、常に愛を持ってサポートすることだと思う。
Not a lot of places in the world do such an exchange. There are artists that are super talented but don’t have the right kind of push or support. It’s so great to see this initiative from the WOMB family. The only advise is have is to keep at it as they are already doing such a fantastic job. Love and support always.
ーーDJプレイでこの曲は絶対に外せない曲をあえて一曲あげるなら？
Do you have a track that is very essential for your DJ set?
D：最近は、Odd recordingsからリリースされた自分の新しいトラック‘The Mystery’をかけるのをとても楽しんでるよ！ダンスフロアでとても評判が良いんだ。
At the moment I’ve really been enjoying playing my new track ‘The Mystery’ out on Odd recordings! I’ve been getting some great response on the dancefloor for this one.
ーーイベント前の予習として当日イベントに遊びにくるオーディエンスにまずは聴いておいて欲しいあなたの曲、DJ Mixを教えてください。

このように自身の音楽的ルーツや現地のシーンなどについて語ってくれたDotdat。イベント当日は、そんな彼とWOMB Travelインドツアーで共演したDrunken Kongや韓国からのゲストKyperらがメインフロアに出演する。またWOMB LOUNGEにはUKの人気レーベル「Anjunadeep」からリリースした新作アルバム『Flight』で話題の日本人プロデューサーであるLycoriscorisが、モジュラーシンセを使ってのライブセットで出演することも決定している。インタビューを読んでDotdatのことが気になった人は是非イベントに足を運んでほしい。
